Mayor Benjie Reports about UNESCO-MONDIACULT 2022 World Conference
The UNESCO-MONDIACULT 2022 World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development was convened on September 28 to 30, which was hosted by the Government of Mexico. The conference aims to shape and promote a resilient cultural sector anchored in sustainable development.
The City of Baguio, being a Creative City of Crafts and Folk Art recognized by UNESCO, was represented by Mayor Benjie Magalong as a plenary speaker. Mr. Raymundo Rovillos, Co-chairperson of Creative Baguio City Council, was Mayor Benjie’s co-presenter.
During the flag raising ceremony on October 10, Mayor Benjie reported that Baguio City, among all the cities in the world, that was requested to deliver a presentation of achievements for Culture Indicators 2030 by UNESCO.
There were 5 presenters, which the 4 are all ministers of culture in their respective countries, but only Baguio was chosen among all the cities.
“Baguio was the only city that was able to comply with all the requirements for the Culture Indicators 2030,” the mayor said.
“We were proud to say that during the particular presentation, we were commended and recognized as one of the best, if not the best, presenter during that particular event and we were profoundly applauded,” he added.
