LGU Baguio City is Now ISO 9001:2015 Certified

The certifying body TÜV Nord Cert GmbH granted the City Government of Baguio its ISO 9001:2015 status for Public Administration Covering All Services of the City Government of Baguio. Mayor Benjie, along with the city officials and department heads, received the certification during the flag raising ceremony on January 3, 2023.

The ISO 9001:2015 certification for public administration in the city was the result of significant improvements in the delivery of public service from top management down to the frontlines. The scope also includes government personnels’ overall process and progress in performing their functions. Compliance to specific guidelines was carefully documented and the data gathered from it were evaluated to further improve government processes. According to the mayor, risk management was a critical component of the ISO 9001:2015 standards.

Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) Productivity and Development Center-Advocacy and Institutional Development Office Director Evangeline Macariola congratulated the City of Baguio for the achievement.

“With only seven months of DAP’s assistance and considering your [organizational] size [with] hundreds of processes, we know that the journey wasn’t easy. But you managed to pull it off and was able to establish a QMS (Quality Management System) covering all operations and processes required in the provision and regulation of quality public services, projects, and facilities to your constituents,” Director Macariola added.

In an interview, Mayor Benjie emphasized that the certification is, indeed, not an easy achievement. Being ISO certified is not a one-time deal, but instead, should be sustained.

“It is an effort from everyone. From the political leaders, the department heads, hanggang sa lowest. Kasi pag nagkakaroon ka ng management review, pati yung pinakamababa [inaalam] kung ano yung role mo, ano yung processes mo, at ano yung mga gaps na naidentify mo. Kaya ang importante diyan is yung critical thinking ability ng ating personnel,” the mayor said.
